Ayurveda in General

Ayurveda or “The Science of Life” is the oldest healing science in the world.  The magnificence of Ayurveda lies in its strong view of life as a sustaining combination of the physical body including the faculties of the mind, the sense organs (indriya), and the soul or spirit (aatmaa). This science places great emphasis on the prevention aspect and therefore encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance in one’s life.

As per Ayurveda, there are three basic types of energy or doshas that are present in everyone and everything. They are: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. They are known as the Three Doshas or simply the ‘Tridosha’. Vata Dosha can be described as the energy of movement. It is composed of space and air. Vata Dosha thus has the mobility and quickness of space and air. Pitta Dosha has the metabolic qualities of fire and thus can be defined as the energy of digestion or metabolism. The Kapha Dosha being composed of water and earth possesses their stability and stolidity. Every  physiological and psychological process in the living organism is regulated by the ‘Tridosha’. A harmonious state of the Tridosha creates balance and Health, while an imbalance, which might be an excess or a deficiency manifests as a sign or symptom of disease.

Relevance of Ayurveda in modern times.
Ayurveda is gaining much prominence in these modern times. This is mainly due to demands that a fast paced lifestyle places upon one’s health. The frantic chase towards ones coveted goals often has a taxing effect on one’s body and the mind. Often the balance in work and life is lost leading to many problems. This when pushed beyond a limit leads to disease and other medical conditions. Ayurveda guides and helps one in gaining back the robust health through restoration of all imbalances and adopting a positive perception towards life.

The IT Sector: Heavily Hit
The services sector in India has had a tremendous growth in the past two decades. It has not only made a major contribution to the nation’s GDP, but also opened the floodgates of employment to a vast majority of youth. The bright aspect was that it gave hefty pay packages which enabled them to lead the lives they desired. But the flip side of it was that their sedentary lifestyles took a heavy toll on their health. Long hours spent in front of the computer left them with a variety of ailments. While some suffered from chronic back pain and insomnia, others suffered from impotency and lack of libido. And many seem to age much before their middle age. If these health issues are allowed to fester for long, it would ultimately hamper the productivity of the work force. Through this blog an attempt is made to understand some of the major ailments plaguing the workforce in the IT Sector and to suggest the available remedies through Ayurveda.
